This year from 28-30 March, we three sixth grade classes attended the Sierra Outdoor School in Sonora for science camp. Our experience included hiking along trails through the forest, learning about trees’ benefits to us and our environment, dissecting owl pellets, singing about “scat starts with an S and ends with a T; it comes out of you and it comes out of me”, exploring pond activity, to looking through a gigantic telescope at the stars. These students were active and engaged from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm. Not only did the meal staff take great care of us with healthy and hearty meals, but the students learned the meaning and manners of eating “family style” and took up the responsibilities of meal time clean up. We all had a blast and can’t wait to attend science camp again next year!
